Universities Ireland History Bursaries 2022

Universities Ireland, the body that promotes collaboration between universities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, is offering at least two bursaries to students at MA, M.Phil, M.Litt, and Ph.D/D.Litt levels on a topic relating to the 1912-1923 period in Ireland, the decade of the First World War and the division of the island into the states of Ireland (Irish Free State) and Northern Ireland. Applications are particularly welcome this year from students undertaking work on the impact of events in 2022 on this island. 

Eligibility criteria for the Universities Ireland History Bursaries 2022 :

• Candidates applying for this bursary must be currently enrolled students or those who graduated within the past 5 years from a university or other higher education institution and obtained acceptance onto a post-graduate course at an Irish or British university.
• Applicants must enrol in a course that is related to the 1912-1923 period in Ireland.
• This bursary scheme is open to students studying for the degree of MA / M.Phil /M. Litt / Ph.D / D.Phil by research / Masters.
• Applicants who have already started their course are NOT eligible.
• Applicants with a primary degree from an institution/university in any country can also apply.
• The applicants must submit an essay of 2000 words describing the proposed research topic in a field related to the 1912-1923 period in Ireland.
• It will be a condition of this scheme that the successful candidate will attend the one-day Universities Ireland conference – “Reflecting on a Decade of War and Revolution in Ireland 1912-1923” – in 2022.

Value of the Universities Ireland History Bursaries 2022 :

This scholarship offers at least two bursaries of €13,000. The bursary will be paid in two parts: 50% at the beginning of the student’s first post-graduate year in autumn 2022 and 50% at the end of their first year in June 2023 upon production of a report.
